The Club's enviable location offers our fly-fishing owners easy access to a wide array of waterways to enjoy their pursuit of prized trout. The streams and rivers here are replete with boulders, plunge pools, wide pools, fast runs through narrow shoots, waterfalls, and other picturesque features,” notes Michael Casey, manager of Brookings, a premium outfitter in Cashiers and a Platinum Level Orvis dealer. “In just a few miles, you can fish everything from flat water to cascades.” More than scenic, area waterways are laden with fish. Trout Unlimited rates the Davidson River, located about an hour from the Club in the majestic Pisgah National Forest, one of the best trout areas in the United States. You can test your skill on brookies, the only trout native to the Southern Appalachians, in Pathertown Valley. The federally protected wilderness area is just over the ridgeline and 15 minutes from the Club. Two other notable waterways lie within 15 minutes of the Club, the Whitewater and Chattooga rivers. Both received acclaim in a recent article of American Angler entitled “Amazing Fly Fishing Destinations: The Top 100 from Arkansas to Zambia.” Boasting fast currents, big boulders, and deep pools, the Whitewater is ideal for experienced fly fishermen, as well as beginners unafraid of wading challenges. With a little hiking, you can quickly locate a spot where you have the trout and beauty all to yourself.
